English Admin – Learning English through a funny story. Reading a funny story is interesting. Surely it will make us laugh. Relating to funny story, students of high school are very familiar with the text with unpredictable ending.

This an unpredictable plot in the end of the story is called twist. The text which a twist end it, then we categorize as a spoof text. Many student give definition of a spoof text is simple a funny story. A spoof text is actually not a funny story. The funny sense which reader get is derived by the unpredictability of the plot in the end of the story. To make clear, let’s read the following short spoof text which I find in superlaugh.
The Boss and The Trainee
A Man joined a big Multi National Company as a trainee. On his first day he dialed the pantry and shouted into the phone, “Get me a coffee quickly!”
The voice from the other side responded, “You fool you’ve dialed the wrong extension! Do you know who you’re talking to, dumbo?”
No”, replied the trainee.
“It’s the Managing Director of the company, you fool!”
The man shouted back, “And do you know who YOU are talking to, you fool?”
“No”, replied the Managing Director. “Thats Good!”, replied the trainee and put down the phone!
Teks spoof diatas memang sangat pendek. Meski begitu cerita bahasa Inggris tersebut tetap mengandung sebuah twist. Itulah kenapa cerita diatas terdengan menjadi tak terduga diakhir cerita sehingga menjadi lucu.

Bagi yang masih belum memahami dimana letak kelucuannya, atau dimana unsur twist nya berikut disajikan tetjemahn bebasnya dari teks bahasa Inggris.
Seorang laki-laki masuk menjadi karyawan untuk mengikuti training pada sebuah perusahaan muliti nasional. Pada hari pertama ia bekerja, ia menelepon dan berkata; “Berikan saya secangkir kopi, cepat!” perintahnya.

Suara diujung telepon terdengar ” Hey kamu, tahukan kamu ini salah tekan nomor. Kamu tahu ini bicara dengan siapa?”

“tidak” Jawab laki-laki itu

” Ini adalah directur perusahaan, bodoh” Suara di telepon  itu menjawab dengan keras.

Laki-laki itu menyelah kembali dengan keras juga ” Dan tahukah ANDA bica dengan siapa ini, bodoh juga?

“tidak” jawab directur itu. ” Baguslah kalau begitu” jawab laki-laki itu kemudian meletakkan telponnya.
Begitulah contoh spoof text bahasa Inggris yang lucu dan konnyol. Kelucuan dari teks ini lebih dikarenakan alur cerita yang tak terduga di akhir permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh para pelaku cerita. Semoga tersenyum dan tetap semangat belajar bahasa Inggris.
